New Community / Comunidad Nueva

A month after returning to our community here in SE Minnesota, my fresh eyes and new perspective have left with some very strong signals. More than anything, we should all be incredibly proud to be a part of such a diverse, vibrant, and cohesive community. Of all the places I have lived in Mexico, Chile, and Minnesota, the amount of support and community cohesion at a fundamental level, is unprecedented in my eyes. Nowhere but Faribault, Northfield, and surrounding areas, are community members so involved in actively finding and making community. In an economic downturn, people contribute to the health and well-being of our residents; in a time when it is increasingly easier for people to become anonymous and individual-minded, Rice County seeks and actively creates opportunities to come together to be with each other in the name of community building; in such tight-knit communities to make active attempts at incorporating all new residents from around the world, the Welcome Centers say it all in their names. There is a lot more we can and need to do, and by no means are things how they should be, but fundamentally, I see bright prospects.

In the same spirit, and one of fostering communication with all involved with our collaborative, I am attempting to make a new community, a sub-community if you will. Here online, for those that are interested, I want to post news, happenings, thoughts, and host discussions about the issues at hand for HealthFinders Collaborative and the community at-large. Please feel free to post your comments and thoughts, or just stay updated on what we are doing. I will try as much as I can to make it as accesssible to all of you out there, so let me know if you have ideas, or better yet, if you want to contribute your expertise.

Un mes después de mi regreso a la comunidad aquí en SE Minnesota, mis ojos diferentes y perspectiva nueva me han dejado con unas señales iniciales muy fuertes. Más que nada, debemos todos estar increíblemente orgulloso de estar parte de una comunidad con tanta diversidad, tanta energía, y tanta cohesión. Comparado con todos los lugares donde he vivido yo, en México, Chile, y Minnesota, la cantidad de apoyo y unión de un nivel fundamental, esta sin antecedentes desde mi perspectiva. En ningún otro lugar afuera de Faribault, Northfield, y comunidades alrededores, hay tanta participación en buscar y fortalecer un sentido de comunidad. Durante una economía baja, la gente contribuya a la salud y bienestar de nuestros habitantes; en tiempos cuando es mas y mas fácil estar anónimo y individualista, la gente del Condado Rice busca y crea oportunidades para juntarnos y estar juntos bajo el nombre de crear comunidad; para una comunidad tan unida a hacer intentos auténticos para incorporar toda persona de todas partes del mundo, los “Centros de Bienvenidos” dicen todo con sus nombres. Obviamente hay mucho más que podemos y necesitamos hacer, y no quiero decir que las cosas aquí son como deben ser, pero fundamentalmente, veo un futuro brillante.

Con el mismo sentido, y con intenciones de facilitar la comunicación con todos involucrados en nuestra colaboración, quisiera yo crear una comunidad nueva, un sub-comunidad se puede decir. Aquí, en línea, para los interesados, quiero poner noticias, eventos, pensamientos, y abrir la puerta para conversaciones acerca de los acontecimientos de la comunidad. Por favor, escriben sus comentarios y pensamientos, o solamente infórmese de lo que estamos haciendo. Voy a intentar lo más posible hacerlo accesible para todos en la comunidad, así que por favor avísenme si tienen ideas, o mejor, si quisiera contribuir su sabiduría e ideas.
